The international focus on state failure or state survival fails to value the actions of everyday Syrians, ignoring potential new avenues for practicing everyday dissent worldwide.
The starting point for international solidarity should center around two questions. Firstly, is there a popular uprising? And secondly are there people on the ground or elements within that uprising whose vision I share?
Omar Aziz’s name may never be widely known, but he deserves recognition as a leading contemporary figure in the development of anarchist thought and practice.
